About the Author
I'm Kelvin A. Johnson — U.S. Air Force veteran, retired federal civil servant, and expat. I enlisted in 1997, spent years in military and government contracting, and walked away from it all in November 2021 at the age of 47; chasing a goal I'd carried since childhood: early retirement.
What I found on the other side wasn't the postcard. It was loneliness, money anxiety, and a slow rebuilding of what a meaningful day looks like without a job attached to it. The Other Side of the Beach is the honest version of that story — part memoir, part field guide — for anyone standing where I once stood, wondering what's actually waiting for them.
I'm a father of three, grandfather of one, and I currently call the Caribbean and Colombia home.
